It has been a busy week here at The Learning Center! We have been learning all about community helpers that keep us safe. The children were visited on Monday, by the Benton Police Department who brought along their canine friend McGruff. On Tuesday the "Bug Man" came by to share all about how to keep our homes, friends, family and ourselves safe from different animals. We also learned which animals are our friends and which are our foes. Today we had two important community helpers. Ms. Lindsay, a Registered Dental Hygienist, spoke to the children about keeping our mouths safe and healthy from germs and cavities. Ms. Robin, from Toltec Mounds, stopped by to share with the children about the ancient history right here in Arkansas and how her job helps the community. They also had a fun craft of making arrowhead necklaces. Next week, is our "other" category for community helpers. This includes teachers, farmers, post office workers, etc. We will be visited by the ambulance, fire department, and a librarian.

Our Valentines parties went off without a hitch! The kids had a wonderful time eating goodies and exchanging their "Valentines". We also started our three week unit on "Community Helpers". This unit portrays all of our community occupations that help keep us SAFE, HEALTHY, and OTHER jobs that help make the world go round. If you have or know of someone that has a fun, interesting job please see the front desk. We would love to have volunteers come shareabout their jobs with our classrooms. Ms. Bonnie's sister came this week to share about her job as a nurse at Arkansas Children's Hospital. The kids had a great but fun learning opportunity. They had the chance to practice giving shots and taking care of little (fake) babies. Next week they will be learning about "safety" jobs. We have the police department, fire department, and librarian scheduled for sharing opporitunities next week. We are all looking forward to another great week at TLC Alcoa.

We hope everyone has survived the snow and kept safe and warm. As beautiful as the snow and winter weather is, hopefully Spring is right around the corner. The children have had a fun week learning about Valentine's Day. They made special Valentine's treats to celebrate the holiday. Monday is our Valentine's Day parties so parents don't forget to bring your designated item. Next week we will also begin our three week unit on Community Helpers. This will be a fun, educational study as the children learn about the community around them and those heros that keep us safe.

TLC Parents,
In anticipation of the predicted weather, we are sending this out so you are aware of our inclement weather plans. We do plan to open tomorrow morning and remain open until we feel the road conditions would not allow safe travel home for your families and our employees. Obviously we will not know until tomorrow what the weather conditions will be, please check our website at www.thebesttlc.com for updated inclement weather posts. As of now, with the current forcast, we plan to have a delayed opening of 8 AM Thursday morning. Thank you in advance for being considerate of our decisions, as these are based on the welfare of our staff and TLC families.
